Kognitio Performs Better than Impala and Spark

Kognitio announced on the first day of the Strata + Hadoop World Conference in San Jose, California that its Kognitio on Hadoop analytical platform beat open source tools Impala and Spark in TPC-DS tests. The TPC is a non-profit that offers benchmark standard tests to measure performance.

Kognitio performed faster than Impala and Spark in 92 of the 99 TPC-DS tests, running a single stream at one terabyte. When testing with 10 concurrent streams, Kognitio outperformed both in 80 of the 99 tests, according to Kognitio.

In one query, Kognitio returned a result in 3.2 seconds, 178.5 times faster than Spark which took 571.1 seconds to complete the same query. With a different query, Kognitio was 30.4 times faster, taking 2.9 seconds to complete the query while Impala took 88.3 seconds. These two specific queries, out of 99, were the best results for Kognitio compared to Spark and Impala.

Kognitio also ran the most queries, 76, ‘out of the box’, meaning Kognitio accepted and ran the queries without having to make any system changes. Spark ran 72 and Impala ran 55 without changes
